Civil War Monument Rededication
See President & Mrs. Lincoln!!
President Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mrs.
Lincoln will be arriving in East Bloomfield to
rededicate the impressive Civil War
Monument in Elton Park.
We are excited to also have General Grant as part of the
event.  President Lincoln will visit Grant and the troops in a
recreation of their famous meeting near the end of the Civil
War, just before Lincoln's death.

This will be a historic event involving many stirring
speeches and moving moments.

Over 140 years have passed since the original dedication,
only 3 years after the end of the Civil War.

We hope you, your friends and family and members of the
surrounding towns will attend this important event.

The day is planned to include many historically accurate events and is an important
tribute to the local men that gave their lives for the freedom and unity we enjoy today.

Please join us for this important event.  Following is a tentative schedule of the day;
additions may be made as the event draws closer.

The
East Bloomfield Congregational Church and the United Methodist Choirs
will be singing before the beginning of the ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln, under escort of Northern Honor Guard soldiers, will
proceed to Elton Park.  In the procession will be a
fife and drum corps playing
important tunes from the era.  As in the original dedication, representatives of the
War of 1812 will be present.  Also joining will be
representation of the major wars
since the dedication.

Follow Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln's arrival by
live telegraph updates by men in period
Western Union uniforms!  See how telegraphs worked and affected communications
on the battle fields.

Genesee Country Museum will have an exhibit of period games.  Join in the fun
and see how to walk on stilts and play "in the old fashioned way".

The event will begin with several speeches from important dignitaries, local citizens
and local church representatives.

Civilian women in period dress will sing and President Lincoln will deliver a
speech.

At the end, a
wreath will be laid at the base of the monument by living
descendants of the men listed on the monument and/or Mr. Lincoln.
A gun salute
will follow then Taps will be played.

In addition there will be a demonstration by a Tinsmith and Quilting demonstrations.
